# What is the difference between amount split and bill split?

The primary difference between an amount split and a bill split lies in whether you are dividing the cost of a single transaction or organizing multiple transactions into separate documents.

**Amount Split**

**Purpose:** This is used to divide the specific amount of a single revenue item.

**Functionality:** You can split the amount either percentage-wise or by a specific amount.

**Use Case:** It is ideal for situations where guests want to share the cost of a specific charge equally. Once the amount is divided, the user can proceed with a bill split.

**Bill Split**

**Purpose:** This option is used to generate multiple separate bill documents.

**Functionality:** The system allows for up to 9 different bill splits. You assign a bill number (e.g., "1" or "2") to each revenue item listed on the guest's account.

**Result:** The system generates separate bills based on these numbers; for example, all items marked as "1" will appear on the first bill, while items marked "2" will be on the second.

Both of these options are found in the **Cashier > Check Out** menu on the bill summary screen,.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.rbsgo.com/front-office-module/fo-cashier/faq-on-cashier/what-is-the-difference-between-amount-split-and-bill-split.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
