# What are the different types of Room Blocking

## **What are the different types of Room Blocking?**

There are **three primary types of Room Blocking** used to **restrict room availability for specific purposes:**

### **1. Guest Room Block**

This type is used for the **pre-blocking of a particular room for future arrivals.**

* **Basis:** It is strictly based on **existing reservations.**
* **Functionality:** When you search for and select a reservation, the system automatically selects the **Block Start Date (Arrival Date)** and **Block End Date (Departure Date)** for that guest.

### **2. Maintenance Room Block**

This category is used for **physical room upkeep** and is divided into two distinct statuses depending on the **duration and impact on hotel statistics:**

* **Out of Order (OOO):** Used for **blocks of long duration.** Rooms marked as **Out of Order** are **not considered for ARR (Average Room Rate) calculations** in the room count.
* **Out of Service (OOS):** A **temporary block for a short duration.** Unlike OOO, these rooms are **considered for ARR calculations.**

### **3. Management Room Block**

The system also allows for a **Management Room Block**, though specific details on its **statistical impact** were not provided in the sections describing the other types.

## **Managing and Releasing Blocks**

* **Execution:** Room blocking is performed by navigating to **Front Desk > Room Blocking**, selecting the **block type**, choosing the **room**, and providing a **mandatory narration.**
* **Identification:** In the **Room Search screen**, blocked rooms are visually identified by **color codes** (e.g., **"Blocked for maintenance"**).
* **Release:** To **unblock a room**, you must select the **required block type and number**, then click the **Release Button** in the **Block Release section.**

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.rbsgo.com/front-office-module/fo-frontdesk/faq-on-front-desk/what-are-the-different-types-of-room-blocking.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
