# Default Fiscal Year Selection

The **Default Fiscal Year** option is used to define the primary fiscal year that will be used by the system for viewing reports, performing transactions, and making changes within the selected module.

When multiple fiscal years are available and active, the system will use the selected default fiscal year as the primary reference for all financial operations.

## Steps to Set Default Fiscal Year

Step 1: Navigate to the **General Ledger** module.

1. Click **Settings** from the menu.
2. Select **Default Fiscal Year**.

* The Default Fiscal Year screen will be displayed.

Step 2: Choose the required **Fiscal Year** from the available list.

Step 3: After selecting the fiscal year, click the **Save** button.

* The selected fiscal year will be set as the default for the system or module.

* If the **checkbox for global application** is enabled, the selected default fiscal year setting will be applied for **all users in the system**.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.rbsgo.com/general-ledger/general-ledger-module/gl-settings/gl-settings-default-fiscal-year-selection.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
